F.A.O. Messrs. Martin Snodden, Ken Wilkinson & members of FAST-Families Against Show Trials,

Dear Colleagues for Social Justice,

1. Within a few days of the Oct. 5th launch of the Social Justice Network, at which we were pleased to provide a platform for your Shankill Road-based FAST group, the SJN established a presence on Facebook to highlight the on-going work on the issues which mutually affect, our mainly working-class, communities. As there are a few other SJNs on Facebook we have added the black and white 'Oak-Leaf' logo which has its roots in the Derry Citizens' Action Committee, created within days of the now historic civil rights march of Oct. 5th 1968, in this city. That pivotal event, of which I was a key organiser, was also attended by around a dozen people from the Shankill, mainly female members of the NILP.

2. At present local supporters of the SJN, together with civil rights veterans and others, are actively engaged in promoting the 'March For Justice', which will be held on Sunday, January 29th, commencing at Creggan Shops @ 2.30pm. All groups, and individuals, seeking social justice are being cordially invited to attend. That date marks the 40th anniversary of NICRA's mass demonstration against internment without charge or trial and the torture of detainees. That date is now globally referred to as Bloody Sunday because fourteen local people were killed by the 1st parachute regiment and around seventeen seriously wounded. Further information has been, and will be posted unto our new SJN Facebook page, to which FAST can forward its own 'updates'.

3. Please ensure this correspondence is communicated to your FAST members and others interested in the cause of social justice so that the links established on October 5th 2011 can be developed towards a more deeper commitment to anti-sectarianism and the building of constructive and diverse bridges across all our, mainly working-class, communities. Let me conclude by saying that I believe we have much more in common to unite us all in this worthy cause, than what vested interests within various 'establishments' have created to keep our long-suffering communities divided. Dare I quote the socialist revolutionary James Connolly, executed in 1916, "The 'Great' are only great because we are on our knees - Let us arise!!!!

Thanking you all for your kind attention to this communication.

Yours respectfully,

Fionnbarra Ó Dochartaigh, B.A [Hons.],
Co-founder, NICRA [1967],
