LETTER TO THE EDITOR/S [Shortened Version]

A Chara,

As a coordinator within the 1968 Civil Rights Commemoration Committee I wish to sincerely thank the webmasters of www.springtowncamp.com for inserting a highly welcome section on not only our committee’s work, but also, historical records of past and current struggles for basic civil liberties. Among such is a recording of the excellent lecture delivered, in April, by two leading academics on the Magee College campus in Derry. A summary of 1968 commemorative events, across the Six Counties and beyond, can be located at www.civilrights1968.com

I am sure a number of your readers may be interested in forwarding their own recollections, photographs and other items so that the Springtown site becomes an important and global point of reference for students and others interested in this pivotal era, which transformed NICRA from being a mere lobby group into a broadly-based mass movement that secured, on a non-violent and anti-sectarian basis, major progressive changes within this region..

Our local committee can be contacted on 028 71 286359 or by e-mail via rights.civil@googlemail.com

Is Mise,
Le Meas,

Co-founder, NICRA, 1967,
