Two arrested in Lithuania.

Two Irish citizens have been arrested in Lithuania as part of an 'anti-terrorism' operation.

The two were alledgedly trying to buy a large amount of firearms and explosives for the Real IRA.

In a statement, the Lithuanian Prosecutor-General's office said that the Irish citizens were arrested following an operation aimed at preventing the purchase of illegal arms and explosives.

The operation was carried out by officers of the state security department and the Defence Ministry's special unit.

The two were caught as a result of an international police operation involving Gardai, British Intelligence services and the Lithuanian police.

Gardai say they are assisting the Lithuanian police in their investigations.

One of those arrested is a man from Dundalk, with close family connections to the Real IRA.
