Subject: Martin Meehan.

The death has taken place in Belfast of the former Provisional IRA leader Martin Meehan. He was 62 years old. Meehan joined the IRA in 1966 at the age of 21 and took the side of the Provisionals when it split from Sinn Fein (Official) in 1971. At the last election in the 6 Counties Meehan stood as a candidate in South Antrim and remained a staunch supporter of Stormont Sinn Fein and the Good Friday/Belfast Agreement.
