Subject: Easter Commemoration in New York 2008

Some 200 Irish Republicans gathered at Kelly Ryan's Restaurant in the Bronx for the 92nd Anniversary of 1916 Rising! The Mass was celebrated with Msgr. Patrick Moloney, a native of Limerick. The Dais included former U.S. Congressman Mario Biaggi (age 90), T. Creaney-Pres. of Antrim Society of NY, M. Dunne- Pres. of Tipperary Association of NY, M. Fogarty- Pres. of United Irish Counties of NY, James & Michael Sean McDermott- grandnephews of Sean MacDiarmada, C. McLoughlin- National Chairman of Friends Of Irish Freedom, M. Holt Moore- Pres. of Bronx Gaelic League, M. Lennon- Vice Chairlady of Commodore John Barry Club of Brooklyn. Ken Tierney, native of Galway, a former political prisoner (Fort Worth 5) was Master of Ceremonies. Ed Moloney, well known journalist and author, was the Guest Speaker. There were seven members of the Sean MacDiarmada Family present this year. The Chairman of the NYC St. Patrick's Day Parade was present, as was the President of Sean Oglaigh na hEireann. Members and officers of Cumann na Saoirse were present. Supporters travelled from Boston, Philadelphia, and Belfast to attend. Ed Moloney gave a riviting speech and took questions from the audience. He was very well received by the crowd. There was Irish Republican music, poems, messages from Noel Maguire, and from Ireland. There was a large display of Irish Republican memorabilia. And special tributes were paid to the late Brendan Hughes (Belfast) and the late John Hurley (Boston). The event was hosted by Sean Oglaigh na hEireann and Friends Of Irish Freedom. There was a long list of Patrons. There were a number of ex-prisoners in attendance as well.
