Subject: GET WELL SOON EILEEN !

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

A daughter of an Officer Commanding of the Irish Volunteers, Derry Brigade, during the War for Independence (1916-23), who was mentioned in “The Four Glorious Years”, and other published works on this era, is seriously ill in Altnagelvin Hospital, Derry City. She, and other members of her republican family are/ and were, active in the struggle for national and civil rights. In recent times, although in ill-health, and before being hospitalised, she wrote to the press on the plight of Irish republican prisoners in English jails. Alas, she was one of the very few, who even bothered to take a stand, particularly in the case of the long-suffering POW, Aiden Hulme. She was one of those “voices in the wilderness” who assisted the campaign for repatriation, which was being spear-headed locally by key 1968 civil rights veterans. Aiden and his brother were repatriated to Portlaoise in early December, thanks to people like herself who took a positive and pro-humanitarian stand.

We do not wish to name the lady in question, but those interested in sending a Get Well Soon Card are cordially requested to write to rights.civil@googlemail.com, whereby further details as to full name, ward number and hospital address will be supplied.

In conclusion, she is well known also by republicans in Scotland and the USA and their best wishes at this grave time would be much appreciated by the lady in question, her family, friends, civil rights vets, and many further afield.

Thanking you all for your kind attention to this communication.

Regards- Hon. Sec., main-workstation, October 5th Association,

P.S. Please remember to update yourself on the case of the last remaining Irish prisoner in an English jail, viz; Noel Maguire. It is no exaggeration to state that he is in mortal danger. That fact is confirmed by the Catholic Church’s Irish Commission for Prisoners Overseas (ICPO).

We cordially invite you to scroll down the WATCH, and view previous postings from the Oct. 5th Assoc., and other concerned groups and individuals.
