Justice campaign for Captain Kelly.

A press conference was held in the City Hotel on July 16 to commemorate the memory of the late Captain Kelly. It was attended by his widow Sheila Kelly and his family. It was a historic occasion as it is the first anniversary of Captain Kelly’s death. The main purpose of the conference was to launch an International petition to Captain Kelly. The meeting was chaired by Fionnbarra O ' Dochtaraigh who said "He was determined to succeed with this campaign."

John Kelly was the first speaker of the day. He opened his speech by saying that Brendan Behan once stated, "A gathering of Republicans always started with dissension." He went on to say that Captain Kelly was in the Irish Army and was second in command of Irish Intelligence. This man believed that the people of this island should have their defences. At this particular time the Irish Government under Jack Lynch, who was Taoiseach at the time were taking an interest in Northern Ireland. John Kelly stressed the point that "At no time during these meetings were they under any misapprehension to indicate the means of defending the six counties. The urgency was that Derry and Belfast could be defended." Jack Lynch he claimed handed over to Edward Heath Northern Nationalists who became the Palestinians of the North. He referred to Captain Kelly as being, “A man who acted out of the highest integrity and patriotism for his country. After being charged and acquitted by our peers John Kelly said that, "Captain Kelly lost his rank in the Irish Army and pension and was not restored to his position in the army."

Mrs Kelly, Captain Kelly's widow said that she made aware of the website to her husband by her son who lived in Boston at the time.
