Subject: Celtic League told - 'Maguire repatriation not down to us!

In a reply to the Celtic League re the repatriation of PoW Noel Maguire in England, the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin claims the issue of repatriation is not down to them!

This news came in a reply to the Celtic League Secretary-General Rhisiart Tal-e-bot, who had written to the Minister Dermot Ahern urging that steps be taken to ensure that Mr Maguire was repatriated to Ireland to complete his sentence.
This reply neatly side-steps the issue by averring that the Minister "does not have a role in the processing of applications for prisoner transfer under the European Union Convention on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons." They point out decisions on prisoner transfers are a function of the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform.
The Celtic League now intends to pursue the issue of Noel's repatriation with the Justice Department.

The campaign to have Noel repatriated is on-going and this Saturday (July 28) a picket will take place outside the GPO in Dublin to highlight Noel's case. The picket will commence at 2pm until 3pm.
In London a protest will take place also on Saturday July 28
in solidarity with Noel commencing 2pm.
The Irish Embassy is situated at 17 Grosvenor Place, SW1.
Nearest Underground Station - Hyde Park Corner/Victoria Station.
