When I was in Payson for a family reunion last weekend, I noticed flyers announcing that the traveling replica of The Wall, the Vietnam Memorial, will be on display there June 5-8. My sister and brother-in-law (Navy vet) saw it recently in Farmington and were very moved. I've been to the original in DC and can't begin to describe the power of the memorial.

This is a link to the event in Payson: http://www.paysonrimcountry.com/thewall/ (The photo shown on the video is not the Green Valley Park, which is beautiful.)

The National Park Service site has very little information on the wall itself. This site http://thewall-usa.com/index.asp is much more helpful. I used to search to locate the names from Globe, but since Kenny's did not result, knew there must be others. I then tried Miami, San Carlos, etc. Finally, I just read through all 63 pages of Arizona so I wouldn't miss anyone. (Reading through the names of 621 Arizonans who died in that war had roughly the same effect as seeing the wall.) The list is below with the name, panel on The Wall, and weblink. Let me know if I missed anyone. This site also allows people to post notes and/or pictures on a memorial page for each of the soldiers. Roger's sister has posted on both Paul's and Kenny's pages. I found some other similar sites, but they did not seem as complete as this one. Click "Names on the Wall" on the left for some interesting facts including an item about Morenci.

If you go, be sure to eat at the Main Street Grille (on the old main street of Payson). Stay on that road & you'll end up at the park. If anyone decides to go up, let me know, and if there are several going, maybe we can all get together. If you want any other suggestions or information about the town, let me know. I have strong sentimental/familial attachments to the area and to Main Street. Five of the buildings on the street are historical landmarks for Payson and belonged to members of my family at some point. Some great books on the area are available at "Git A Rope" which has just moved from Main Street to the Beeline Highway. Tell Jinx I sent you. He's got a great CD (all original old style CW) that is always in my car. Linda Murphy Allinson lives in Payson as well and can give you local info: l.allinson@hotmail.com Jerry and Darlene (Warter) Daniels from Miami both teach in Payson, and JD is the PHS baseball coach. I saw them both at the reunion. (Darlene is the relative.)

Y'all:

I am forwarding the information for the multi-class reunion sent from Eloise (White) Price. They sent it in four different formats so everyone should be able to read at least one. It takes place the weekend after our Sixtieth Birthday Party. I'm hoping some talented types like Roger & Linda, Vernon & Lynne, Jay & Rosie, Danny & Jeannine, Bill & Jeri are going to get ours organized. If I have to plan it, we'll all just sign on to computers simultaneously, open a giant chat window, and eat Orville's microwave popcorn. If that isn't your idea of fun, jump on that committee. I can Photoshop your ex out of your photos, but I can't begin to guess how much food is needed for a crowd. I will go to meetings & do whatever I can. We probably need suggestion of what you'd like to do after the homecoming game Friday (Brewery? La Casita? dance? no dance?), whether the main party on Saturday should be a day or night event (Bill & Jeri have volunteered their house if we want to do it there), any other ideas, etc. If you can't attend meetings, please send ideas. If we could get a list of ideas, I can send them out to yea or nay.

I'm also copying to any people in my address book who were at GHS 1963-71 in case they haven't been contacted through your class.

Local stuff: Linda Oddonetto and Linda Gross have organized Cinema Under the Stars in downtown Globe. Read about it at http://www.silverbelt.com/. June - August there are some good AZ bands playing in the park in Miami every other Friday (if they follow the same pattern as last year). Bill Roten and his old-fashioned country-western band kick things off the first Friday in June at Bullion Plaza. Gila Historical Museum has a hamburger fry the last Friday of every month. When Albert gets back into town, we're going to look at setting up a picnic out at Round Table. If anyone would like to suggest a weekend when you'd be available, let me know.

Below are two postings from the KIKO website followed by part of an email I received from Athia on Tuesday.

Obituary
August Hardt of Phoenix passed away Monday. He was 67. He is survived by his wife; his daughter; his son; 3 sisters, including Kathy Elowitz of Globe; and 7 grandchildren. A Memorial Service for August Hardt will be held Friday at 5:pm at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Phoenix.

August Hardt Dies in Skiing Accident
A Memorial Service will be held Friday in Phoenix for August Hardt, who died following a skiing accident on Monday. Hardt was attending a family reunion that he had organized at Roosevelt Lake. He was born and grew up in Globe, the son of Senator "Bill" and Athia Hardt.
--------------------

My brother, August, passed away yesterday.

He organized this family reunion last weekend at Roosevelt Lake. As we left Sunday, he was insisting that he was going to go out on one of the relative’s boat and waterski on one of those new ski boards where your feet are side by side. Nancy and I left and didn’t know any of the rest of this until late Sunday night.

He had been quite a skier as a younger man and also raced boats.

Apparently, he tore his hamstring and ligament off the bone. They sent an ambulance and got him to Globe and the Air Evac’ed him to Good Samaritan. He was in pain but they were scheduling outpatient surgery to reconnect everything. They were just keeping him in the hospital until they got the pain under management. Yesterday they got him up to walk, and apparently a blood clot went to his lung and he died instantly. They could not revive him. It was just a freak thing.

Because he had no medical history, being so healthy, they are going to do an autopsy. The service may be Thursday or Friday.

Jim Phillips from the class of 1956 is spearheading a group to establish a Globe High School Alumni Association. The initial meeting was held on Februray 10th at his house in Apache Junction.

There is a second meeting scheduled for May 24 at 12:30 P.M. at Guayo's (on the trail) in Globe. There will be a dutch treat lunch, and then the organization process will start. Such organizing has greater validity the greater the number of classes that are represented. It would be great if someone from your class could be there. We would like to have at least two people from as many classes as possible, so feel free to bring others with you.

If you have any questions or concerns, or if you intend to be there (greatly appreciated), contact Jim Phillips at 480-671-6231 and let him know. If he is does not answer, leave a message, just have to let the phone ring 6 or 8 times. His snail-mail address is 2570 E. Manzanita St, Apache Junction, AZ 85219. His e-mail address is emerprof@msn.com.

Jim is also spearheading an effort to have a GHS centennial celebration in a few years.

Ya'll can come visit me on The Tiger Den alumni website (www.ghstigerden.com) if you like. I have a message board available there, but I do require you to register before your can post anything. It may take me a day or so to activate your account after you register.

Hi Mary Ellen ...

One of my brothers found your page by googling our mother's name (Betty Porray - 2nd grade teacher at East Globe School) ...

Mom passed away last Sunday (April 6), after a long and productive life ... she was named Clark County School District (Las Vegas and surrounding area) Teacher of the Year in 1984, and retired in 1986. She was 86 at the time of her passing. A private (family only) memorial service will be held.

I printed out the picture of her class, and will pass it out amongst the brothers (there are four of us; Dad was the minister at the Methodist Church on Hill Street, and we lived in the parsonage right next door (now the church office). We moved to Globe (from Grand Canyon) in 1953, and then to Las Vegas in 1956.

Thanks for the memories!

Roy's and Gene's older brother, Bill, passed away this weekend in hospice after being air-vacced out of Miami twice last week due to strokes and other related complications. Bill was married to Margaret Bracy, sister of J.D. and Bobby. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers. Service arrangements are below:

Obituary from http://www.kikonews.blogspot.com/:
William Clinton Waddell of Central Heights passed away Saturday. He was 71. He is survived by his wife Margaret; his son; 2 daughters, including Lynn Dee Trimble of Globe; his sister; 4 brothers; 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
A Memorial service for William Waddell will be held Saturday at 1:pm at the LDS Church in Claypool.

Please keep Rosemary Garcia's daughter, Kim Ellsworth, in your thoughts and prayers. Kim has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Kim is a former student and a beautiful young woman.

Bobby Orozco's nephew, Charlie Guerrero, had brain surgery; please keep him and his family in your prayers.

Sunday's Arizona Republic featured a front page article on Roosevelt Lake which is at 97% capacity. When I drove my mother to Payson three weeks ago, it was beautiful. Both then and last week when I was at Grapevine geocaching, the wildflowers were beautiful. It's well worth a trip. The road to Workman Falls opens this week---that news from my Photoshop instructor who had to hike in Sunday while it was still closed.

I believe we have a plan. I made Lonnie and Yogi and Albert decide. Gregory Scott's (where Arby's used to be---or where Justa' Cafe was back in our time---across the highway from Sonic and Fry's---next to Dollar Tree----start gathering at 6:30 to give people from out of time to get here---come when you can.

Lonnie suggested the next time we get together we picnic in the Pinals or at Round Table. I agree. The road to Round Table has a lock on it, but we can request the key from the Forest Service dudes and use it.

The Class of '68 multi-class reunion is at the casino the weekend of Columbus Day---which appears to be the weekend after our 60th birthday party. They chose that date so that people would have the extra day for travel.

February 29 is Sharon Neal Dominguez's 15th birthday. Feel free to send her happy birthday hate mail ................

I am at about 9.5 on a 10 point frustration scale. (And I'm really ticked at Kelly's for screwing up the great thing we had going there.)

I checked with Guayo's today. Jenica (Eddie's daughter) said that from 5:30 to 7:30 on Fridays is the worst time of the week. Even if we reserve the room, we might have to wait a while to eat and have some other people share the room if the other two dining rooms overflow. We can be served from the bar while we wait. If we arrive before 5:30 or come in sometime after 7:00, we can better avoid the problem. (If we're there early, we can stake out our territory together. If we come in later, it is pretty well cleared out & we'd have the room to ourselves.)

It sounds like if we want the Back Nine, we need to call in some reservations ASAP, probably individually, but letting them know we're one group?

Does anyone go to Gregory Scott's on Fridays? Is it usually crowded? I've been there & like their food, but it was almost empty anytime I've gone.

I really don't know what to think & really don't want to make the decision. When I'm asked how many people are coming, I have to say that I don't know because I don't. The people I know are coming are Lonnie, Yogi, Danny, Jeannine, and Athia. I'm inferring that Albert, Roger, and maybe Linda, John, and Elaine will be there. Maybe Vernon and Lynne depending on the rosary for Mr. Loughran. Roy is hoping make it. I spent enough time on this and other incidental calls and emails that I didn't finish my project for class---disappointing and embarrassing since I like the class and teacher. Someone with a logical bent, please jump in & figure out this mess & I will send an email----or you can just hit "reply all" and I won't have to. (Reading this must be real treat for people like Lon and Bobby who know they won't be here---of course, Lon is probably out siphoning herring and oil---organizing that is probably easier than finding a place to eat.)

Below are the email comments I've received about getting together this Friday at 6. If you're coming, please let me know your preference ASAP so that I can send a last email telling everyone where to meet. I just called Gregory Scott's to check the seating (see Yogi's message below). They do have tables in the center: 2 long ones which seat 15 people each plus four that each seat four in addition to that. They do steaks, fish, chicken, burgers, salads etc. and have a bar. If we do Back Nine or Albert's mom's, we definitely need to know how many people are coming, etc.

Here are the places we'd considered:
Crestline Steakhouse & Bar
Gregory Scott's Bar & Grill
Chalo's backroom
Guayo's on the Trail meeting room
Back Nine Bistro (at Cobre Valley Country Club)
I would guess we could do La Casita too---I don't know if they'd want us taking up tables for 3 hours. Chalo's or Guayo's is more private. I'd vote Guayo's because Eddie donates all the dinners for Habitat....and I love the flour chips! On to the emails:

We were at Crestline about a year ago. They have very limited seating and there's always people waiting. They might not appreciate us sitting at a table for a lengthy time just visiting after dinner. They do have a bar where we could sit afterwards. About Gregory Scott's...I remember the booths on the sides. Is everything booths or are there any tables in the middle area? Getting old is the pits-I was there when Tewks had his surgery and I don't remember the seating layout!!! Yogi

On the 29th, I'd rather do Mexican food, but the local folks may be tired of it. Whatever you guys decide. Athia

Back 9 Bistro only takes reservations for Fridays. I talked to Kari as she works there. She told me that they will not take large parties on Fridays as they are too busy. She thought maybe they would do a party on Sat if it would be profitable enough for them to bring in a crew to work it. Linda Murphy Allinson

I called this afternoon. Back 9 is open Wed., Thurs., & Friday nites! Reservations are needed - the sooner the better. I had no idea how many people will be there Friday, so I couldn't do it then. Jeannine Brockert

Based on how many come, we can do it outside my Mom's house. I can get tables and chairs. I can BBQ and we can have chests for drinks. Lonnie will need his own. Just a thought Albert

And if we want to travel for seafood:
Sure wish I could be there, ever since the reunion I have found out how much I miss my class mates. Busy as hell, a Bering Sea Crabber with 120 tons of Herring on board ran up on the rocks I have been contracted for oil spill response, and clean up. Lon

The following is an email from Debbie Blanco about a multi-class reunion. Her email is dfblanco@cybertrails.com.

The class of 68 is starting to work on the multi class reunion. I was wondering if you are interested in helping out. The class of 68 had one 5 years ago and it was a huge success. We ask for volunteers from each class to help get it together and I thought of you. I don't know if your class is interested or not. If you or anyone in your class is interested we are having our first meeting on Feb. 28, Thursday evening at 7:00 pm at Country Kitchen. We would love to have you come join in on all the fun.

Vernon notified me that the 2008 GHS homecoming is the first weekend in October, making the date for the homecoming football game Friday, October 3. Bill & Jeri Byrne have graciously offered their home for the birthday party. Anyone willing to help make plans? Don't leave it up to me---Photoshop is no help in planning a party. (For the price, it ought to cook dinner and clean house, but alas, it does not.)

I was finally able to speak to a real person at Kelly's & was informed that they are no longer serving food except for "special bookings" with a minimum of 25 attendees guaranteed. In addition, they have a teen night scheduled at 6 on the 29th. Any suggestions for an alternative location? Guayo's has a back room (two actually)--and great flour chips. Chalo's also has a back room. There are Crestline Steakhouse and Gregory Scott's although the booths in the latter are not very conducive to visiting. I'm not sure of the set-up at the Steakhouse---it's been too long since I've been there. There's a Bernie's Roundup Steakhouse and Bar in Wheatfields, but I don't know anything about the set-up there either. I'll collect & organize responses and then send out another mailing. I am buried in Community Concert contracts, Habitat reports to the national office, and a church centennial this week--and two computer graphics classes---so I'm relying on your replies to find a place.

Athia forwarded this message (below) that she received from her sister. I had also seen a newspaper article, a scan of which is inserted/attached.

Albert is in town for a month. Lonnie and Yogi will be here the last weekend of February. We're looking at a get-together at The Brewery on Saturday, February 29. No time yet specified, but I'm guessing 6 since that's become the usual time.

If anyone is interested, the annual Globe Historic Home Tour is this weekend, Feb 16 & 17. Related activities are pancake breadfast, chili lunch, Justa' Jukebox performance, Smithsonian "Between Fences" at Gila County Historical Museum, quilt show at the Center for the Arts (old courthouse), antique shop at GHS gym. The old train station (not the small building used for the Centennial) is being restored as one stop. For details, etc:

Anyone interested in a get-together in Payson? Last weekend at the Main Street Grille, a singer named Carl Anthony was doing a great job with 50's & 60's standards---and even a few earlier. I've seen his name on the entertainment listing for other venues in the area as well. There were maybe 20 people there dancing, etc. I'm guessing it'll be really crowded later when it's warmer. This is their off-season. Great food and service too. Besides that, Linda wouldn't have to drive to Globe!

GHS picnic info below and attached. If any of you are thinking of going, hit reply-all, post on Mary Ellen's site, or let me or Athia know. I'm still thinking we need a class cruise to Hawaii before Bobby leaves----which could be soon---his house is on the market. Think positive thoughts for quick sale so he can come to the next event.

This is the second one that being held. Last year about 30 people from the 50's and 40's classes attended; but, I understand that this year there's been interest from classes from the 60s and 70s also. It started out as a '55 picnic but others in the valley heard about it and asked if they could come... so, now it's all GHS alumni. Ferg....!!!! How utterly delightful and "coincidental" to hear from you after all these eons. I say "coincidental" because I was JUST thinking of you the other evening (while checking out the recent meteor shower), wondering how you were and wishing you well! I don't do the chat page scene any more as life has had other plans for my time... plus White Dove's is gone and Tom's page may follow from what I gathered on my last visit (I drop in maybe twice a year to see who's still left). Mine's still here as you see, and though now transformed into my high school class bulletin board, is always open to any of the warrior clan who would like to drop by. May your new year be a special one...

Happy Solstice MaryEllen! The guides have come and gone, and in that order since you have to overlap.

We are eternally connected... and like Stuie says, I wanted to get away but everyone was there still. Really quite disappointing!

Trinity of Holidays

Let's talk turkey (and eggnog and noisemakers, for that matter). We're in the midst of the holiday season (no, that's not a PC term; I'm talking about Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's) and I have just one question: Do you even remember what it's all about?

I'm guessing you don't, because we've buried the magic of those holidays under so much noise and irrelevance that we really don't enjoy this time of year -- and we certainly don't grow spiritually from the gifts that are right in front of us. Over time, we've mangled these holidays into unrecognizable displays of gluttony and greed.

Take Thanksgiving, for instance. In November 1789, President George Washington made Thanksgiving a national holiday when he declared that the nation needed "a day of public Thanksgiving and prayer." Somehow, this day in late November that was intended to be a timeout to give thanks to Almighty God has turned into a feast of food and football that has nothing to do with prayer (unless you count praying for your football team to cover the spread, which I obviously don't).

Christmas is intended to celebrate the birth of Christ, but political-correctness and consumerism have mangled it so far beyond recognition that I'm actually surprised when I see a reference to baby Jesus anymore.

January 1st offers the promise of a new start and a new calendar year, but it's become an excuse to party and drink so much that you wake up not even knowing what day it is.

It's no wonder that, after the turkey comas and pine cone needles have disappeared, the only thing left over from the holidays is a bigger waistline and more credit card debt.

I want us to take back the real meaning of these holidays. I don't think it's an accident that they are clustered together; I see it as divine design. Every year they offer us a clear series of steps we can take to become better people.

Step One is gratitude. Thanksgiving gives us the opportunity to humble ourselves and give thanks for the many blessings we have. Prayers help us find peace and acceptance with who we are.

Step Two is redemption. If you have seen my Christmas show, you know that I believe Christmas is more about the death of the man than the birth of the child. We celebrate the birth of the baby on December 25th, but the reason for His existence was so His death would cleanse our sins. His journey, from manger to cross, gives us a second chance.

Step Three is hope. The New Year gives us a clean slate, made possible because we've already humbled ourselves, given thanks, and found redemption. You can't succeed in your resolutions if you are still damaged from the past or if they are just a list on a piece of paper.

None of these holidays started out as anything extravagant. Thanksgiving was just a proclamation, Christmas began in a stable, and the New Year has always just been a day on the calendar. But their magic is in what they represent and in the opportunities they give us. They are very simple in their rewards: your grandmother's tablecloth; your child discovering the Christmas tree; the promise of a new year.

The true gifts of the season aren't in a lighting display or a gourmet meal; they are in your heart, and gathered around your table. You just have to take the time to look for them.

Traditions and glittery stuff are fine -- but our souls need attention, too. There is such a thing as a second chance and I hope, if you need one, you will find it this season in all the blessings around you.

Happy holidays from the Glenn Beck Program.

Globe's globally famous Electric Light Parade takes place Saturday. (I'm guessing rain will take place Saturday as well.) I really like the poster & thought others would enjoy it. Tunis and Bronson turn out some great artwork---and inspire me to take the classes----and to hanker after way too expensive cameras.

If you are planning to be or can be in the area for the holidays, we're looking at another get-together at Kelly's Brewery at 6:00 on Saturday, December 29. Saturday gives out-of-towners a better opportunity to be there. Lonnie & Yogi will arrive on the 28th & plan to be there. You can come early for the after-Christmas specials at Shirley's store. Everyone needs one of those music boxes she sells---I've purchased four. Also hit the Blue Mule (down by the Drift In) for great artwork of the area. I can't begin to tell you how many of those prints I've purchased for myself and others.

If anyone is going to be in town and can't make it the 29th let me (or hit "reply all") know and maybe people can get together for lunch at La Casita. You can tell when people graduated from GHS by which restaurant they come home to. The younger crowd comes back to Chalo's----Rolling Pin to us.

In addition to the attachment, this is a reminder of the get-together this Saturday, the 17th, at Kelly's Brewery (restaurant---street level) at 6 to celebrate the marriage of Roger & Linda. If you can't be there until later, come when you can.

Looks like most people prefer a fall 60th Birthday Party (even thought Lonnie won't be 60 yet---I know he'll say that, so I beat him to it). I'm not sure when the student council will set homecoming. If they wait until next fall to do it, we may need to set a date that hopefully will coincide. I emailed the sponsor, but he hasn't replied. (Vernon, would you check with Monty to see if you can find out anything?) If this is a realignment year for AIA athletics, GHS may not know the football schedule until spring and, therefore, won't be able to set a date early.

If any of you are planning to be in the area at Thanksgiving or Christmas long enough for a get-together, let me/us know & we'll try to organize.

I'd have had the attachment sent yesterday if I hadn't stubbornly insisted I could compress an audio file to use as background. Instead I'm using a decidedly inferior midi which is small enough not to "clog up" servers. I still think the compression can be done, but I'm not the one who can do it---not now anyway. What I wanted to attach was the last song "Thank You" here: http://www.americasupportsyou.mil/AmericaSupportsYou/america/musical.html. There are several good songs on the site as well as on the link at the top to songs written by servicemen: http://www.americasupportsyou.mil/AmericaSupportsYou/america/musical_SongsSoulService.html.

I have emailed this to myself, my mom, and my sister so many times it's ridiculous. Last two time it remained intact, so I'm going to send and forget (yeah, right).

Google has implemented a new feature which enables you to type a telephone number into the search bar, hit enter, and you will be given the person's name and address. If you then hit MapQuest, you will get a map to the person's house.

Everyone should be aware of this! It's a nationwide reverse telephone book.

If a child gives out his/her phone number, someone can now look it up to find out where he/she lives. The safety issues are obvious, and alarming.

Note that you can have your phone number removed or blocked. I tried my number, and it did come up, I clicked map and Mapquest gave directions directly to the house. Quite scary. Please look up your own number.

In order to test whether your phone number is mapped, go to:

www.google.com (http://www.google.com/)

Type your phone number in the search bar (i.e. 555-555-1212) and hit enter.

If you want to B L O C K Google from divulging your private information, simply click on your telephone number and then click on the Removal Form.

Removal takes 48 hours. Please share this information with friends and family.

After Bobby O and I spent a good deal of time checking fire maps http://www.signonsandiego.com/firemap/, etc., we came to the conclusion that Peggy & home were probably safe. I decided to call her mom just to make sure. They have to evacuate to San Diego on Saturday (largely because of the smoke), but are returning to their home this evening. I told some of you last night that the Matschullats' daughter Chris, who is marred to Thom Herrington, who also attended GHS, live in Ramona. I don't have an address for them, so I don't know their current status. I've emailed Gerry and Arlene, but haven't heard back.

I have two votes for July 5. None against. It's a landslide.....................

Yes, I did finish the run and I wasn't even close to last---a miracle considering it wasn't a large run. As a matter of fact, probably 15-20 minutes after I finished and was pulling out of Kiwanis Park onto Baseline, there were people a whole lot younger than I just coming around the corner with at least a quarter mile to go---two of them were teenage refugees from the Congo. RFCW will gladly accept contributions after the fact (in case you just wanted to see if I survived). I'm happy to deliver any to Marya.

Anyone other than I remember Teddy Knotter? (His dad was minister at the Presbyterian Church.) I heard a news item about a Phoenix resident by that name who was collecting bicycles for the homeless. I googled the church they mentioned, found Ted's name in reference to a hiking group, and sent an email. Sure enough, it was he. He lives about 1/2 mile from Bill Sheppard and about a mile farther from Athia. I have contact info, etc., if anyone wants it.

I'm sending this as an attachment because web-based email sites like Yahoo and Hotmail will not display it properly---even this way they'll still leave out some of the graphics and garble some text, but there's not a workaround that I know of (or of which I know).

[note from Mary Ellen... can't add the graphics on this chat page so will just type the text... imagine "Chapel of Love" playing...]

Chapel of Love

Congratulations Linda and Roger

Love is... Being with You

Maybe my heart told your heart
it had a parking place outside
or that we both like taking walks
and doing things at night.
Maybe our hearts have the same favorite colors
or maybe it was because they both like sunshine best.
Maybe your heart sent my heart a secret message
that said: I've been waiting for you...
Let's go.
Love.
Or maybe when it comes to things like this
there aren't reasons...
Hearts just know.

Congratulations

Kisses

Yep, it's a done deal! Linda and Roger were married October 19, 2007! Of course, that's a great excuse for a get-together at the Brewery! Get yourself to Globe on November 17 to say Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Allinson.

But wait....there's more!
A video taped by member of the family!
This copy/pasted from her email:

Or you can go to Yahoo.com and click on videos in the middle top of your screen and then search for “Roger and Linda’s wedding”.

Please keep Peggy Stewart in your thoughts and prayers; she lives in Poway near San Diego where the fires are raging.

It must be homecoming week at GHS---on my way to PhotoShop class, I saw frantic freshmen at the Canyon Fire Station working on a float.

Athia has reminded me that we still need to set a date for the 60th Birthday Party so that people can make plans. When I asked for suggestions for dates---good or bad---I got no responses. July 4 is on a Friday this year, so maybe July 5 would be a possibility. Or is it better to avoid the holiday? If you wait for me to pick a date, it won't ever happen. I am the queen of ambivalence. No, I'm not; yes, I am.

Have you ever thought: "Hey, I'd pay good money to see Sue make a complete fool of herself with hundreds of people watching"? Well, here's your opportunity! Remember that whole "save the world" thing of the sixites and seventies? Well, I'm afraid I never quite outgrew it. What I am doing is running a 10K to raise money for a worthy cause----and to support the race organizer who is a former student/peer mediator---who probably listened too well to all my speeches about saving the world. I have a theory that in this me-me-me age, it's a rare and wonderful occurrence to find a young person who is willing to work as hard as Marya has to coordinate this event. She, as well as the charity, needs support. Below are links to various parts of the website that will explain the need, etc. If you choose to donate, it is possible to do so online. I'm not sure whether you can indicate what race and what runner to credit. If you prefer, you could mail me a check (see below) and I will turn it in race day. Email me for details.

I did do a trial run last weekend---and barring any injury between now and the 21st---can complete the 6.2 miles. (I had to run 2 miles uphill---Kiwanis Park is flat.) Since I haven't participated in an organized run in about 20 years, I have every confidence that I will be the last runner to cross the line. Contributing to this belief is that I'm aobut 15 pounds and 30 years over my optimum running weight and condition. Albert said he'd come run this with me, but I'm betting (1) he doesn't remember he said that and (2) he couldn't slow down enough to stay with me.

Here is the link to the specific run: http://www.runforcongowomen.org/events.php?e=tempe20071021

From that URL, you can click on "About RFCW" and/or "About Congo" for information about where the money is going. In a number of places on the website are horrifying stories about what is happening to women and children in the Congo and how your money can make a difference. If you click "Fundraiser Support Kit" you can watch an online video and read other information. If you would like to donate online, there is a clickable link. If you would like to donate via check, you should make it payable to "Women for Women International" and write "Run for Congo Women" on the memo line.

Having been hit up by students (and adults) for the last 35+ years, I know that you can't give to everything and I will not think less of anyone who doesn't respond. However, I'm hoping that enough people can donate at least a small amount to support the cause and Marya. Please feel free to forward this to anyone else you think might be interested in the cause. (I am sending a separate mailing to all those former students to whom I pledged over the years---it's payback time.)

Thank you..............Sue Tippett Jones

P.S. I will be sending a class mailing soon about the 60th Birthday next summer (please be thinking of a good date) and a get-together in the near future---a celebration is in order. In case you're looking for something to do, Apache Jii is this coming weekend and encore performances of Justa' Cafe are this weekend and next. I heard that it was fantastic.
