I heard an ALI professor urge his students to read a lot and thus make more articles and prepositions sound natural to their minds' ear. He also told them that articles and prepostions work themselves out with practice and fear of being incorrect should not keep them from talking. The first point is intuitively correct; the second one is fairly obvious. Learners are more anxious about prepositions and articles than their teachers are.
