It was in Louisiana, early summer of 1971. Five of us drove my purple Ford van from Cocoa Beach and waited outside the gate two days before it opened. I remember the mud people floating on a log in the river singing "row, row, row your boat" and a young couple making love on an air matress in the middle of a small pond with a circle of hippies around it clapping time. (They fell off as things got heated!) Lots of photographers when you were trying to get a bath in the river. The music was great and the fireworks show was incredible. Driving through Baton Rouge many people seemed very hostile but the country folks around the festival site were very friendly.
