I have mostly pretty clear memories of the Festival...1) driving with my friend Ron from Rhode Island...arriving very late at night (some guy actually took out tickets--he stopped us as we drove in!)...the next morning, I was amazed at the vast sea of tents spreak out around us...the skydiver burning up as he came down toward the site was pretty horrible although I wasn't aware of exactly what was happening--he landed in a field near some trees and the ambulance got stuck in mud on the way to his body...heard very little live music except for the Alman Brothers near the end of their set...there were people driving around and around the racetrack (amateur racing!)...picked up a hitchhiker on the way home...we dropped him off on I-95 near an exit (he was pretty obnoxious)...the "Road" lined with tables full of interesting "merchandise!"...some folks selling beer and cigarettes out of the back of a truck...National Guard vehicles getting stuck in the crowd...friendly, cooperative gathering of 650,000 people!
