I remember this cruise. I was an Engineer Cadet aboard at the time it was late 1980. The storm in which we were hit by the wave was one of the worst ever recorded in the Med.
I think we bent the rudder by hitting the bottom trying to get in to Alexandria. The shooting of John Lennon was anounced by the Captain over the ships tannoy system but you obviously didn't hear.
