i was due to go on the Uganda in May 1982, just before i was due to go she was sent to the Falklands- all the war meant to me at the time was missing my cruise! I remember watching her in the war hoping that she'd come back in one piece and i'd be able to go on her. Luckily i went in the November we flew to Venice and went to Dubrovnick, Rhodes, Cyprus, Israel,Bodrum and Malta. Whilst we were on board we got the news that she was going to go back to the falklands. Luckily for me we chose the November cruise as we had been offered that one and one the following January - which we probably wouldn't have been able to go on.
Years later i saw her when she was moored up in Falmouth before being sold for scrap. It was heart breaking to she this beautiful ship in the state she was in. It brought back onderful memories of my cruise. I really wanted to go on and walk arounf her one last time, but unfortunately no one was allowed to.
23 years on i still have fond memories of the cruise - surviving for days on jelly babies cos the food was in edible. Midnight feasts on Jaffa cakes and then turkish delight. what a great time
