I sailed on SS uganda from November 23rd until December 6th 1977.
We flew from Gatwick to Venice by Dan Air and cruised To Izmir Turkey our first port of call then to Cyprus, Egypt and to Athens,we should have called at Rhodes but the weather was bad so we had an extra day in Athens.
I remember the visit to the bridge and engine rooms well and the dormitories, the beds were fixed to poles and supported by chains, it was a well known trick to remove one chain and tie the other with string as the final link so when the unsuspecting person me being the victim got into their bunk the string would break and yes i ended up on the floor much to the amusement of others.
Dormitory inspection !! never good marks. Staff Officer Ron Furlong yes remember him well. Discos, Films Freaky Friday and even the church service. I was with the Chulmleigh School Party with teachers Mr Preace(english) And Mr wood (auto engineering) both i recall no longer with us I was also sorry to learn of Uganda's end i still have my muster station badge and the record 45rpm. yes very fond memories of that voyage and never been on a cruise ship since.
