That was an earlier `Nevassa` , Uganda`s sister was launched in 1955 by Mrs JA Boyd-Carpenter, wife of the then Minister for Transport, initially with a 15 year charter as a troop ship. In 1957 she was no longer needed as a troop transport and in 1962 she was layed up and by 1965 she had been converted as an educational cruise ship.
