Mars Bars smaller than UK Piraeus/Athens - Police in long green leather coats looking mean - the Colonels were still in power at the time. Alexandria - anti-personnel mines dropped by the side of the ship all night to put off Israeli commandos. Egypt still on a war footing against Israel. Still disappointed at that highway that runs right in front of the Pyramids, Venice - we all bought plastic gondolas that lit up. They still sell them! Flight back to Gatwick on a Dan Air Comet just in time for Christmas. Some other memories:- Loads of knives confiscated by Master at Arms Dorms in the bowels of the ship. First time I had tasted curry was on board Managed to loose my voice at some stage - was made to inhale Friar's Balsalm which did the trick. That storm between Gib and Malta was horrendous - Captain came over intercom and tried to play it cool that it was nothing but later heard he was very sick himself. Quite a bit of damage done to the ship's fittings. Girls constantly reminded about getting their bum's pinched in places like Egypt - those were the days of mini skirts. Early morning visit to Santorini. Those stainless steel mess tins used for meals! Feeling very cool in flares at the disco. Could go on but it just shows how indelible the memories are after so long!
