Thank you for a great site.
Makes one realise how important events can be to individuals and then heartening to find it is a shared experience for many.
My memories.
Was March/April, I'd guess around 1981.
Night flight, I think the plane was called 'Metro' and we arrived to a sunny morning in Split, Yugoslavia (MIG fighters at the airport).
Olympia - Greece.
Alexandria - Egypt. People throwing coins at men on the tug (they encouraging more!). Coach trip up Nile delta to Cairo (very poor). Cairo Museum and Mohammed Ali mosque. Giza pyramids and trip back across desert at night.
Hyfia - Israel. Past Jericho, Dead Sea, Jerusalem (Jewish couple let us take pictures of them in bridal dress), Bethlehem.
Kos - cancelled (force 10 gale!). Sailed through Santorini instead.
Venice - AC/DC on tourists tape player in St. Marks square - great!
Generally weather was excellent (must have been 30C in Egypt).
We were in 'deep' dorm down by the anchor chain.
Ship smelt of Asian spices.
Dodgy green drinks!
Best wishes to all who enjoyed the cruises and thanks to anyone involved from the SS Uganda etc.
