I remember this cruise as if it were yesterday. The stirring Land of Hope and Glory in St Michael's caves. Also, walking back to the SS Uganda in Gibraltar and feeling under physical threat from the local young men - who were all trying to touch us up - thank goodness we'd been advised to return in groups of no less that three!
Another really stirring moment was the Sunday morning prayer service - everyone out on deck in the sunshine, no clouds and especially no land in sight. Really moving.
I aslo remember a group of us sneaking a bottle of vodka on board in someone's violin case in Santander. (Can't remember whether I ever got to drink any of the vodka though!) I think this was the same group I often went on deck with. Someone had a guitar and I remember singing 'Streets of London' - think this was in the moonlight.
It was one of the most fantastic moments of my life.
I was in Magellan dorm if I remember rightly. The camel ride was a bit odd!
So much for the low price - my grandparents paid for my trip.
