I am searching for any information about my Great Uncle Matthew "Matty" Russo who was assigned to 447 co. He was a signalman and was assigned to Little Creek Amphibious base before or after Sampson if anyone else was. He says he patrolled mostly the gulf of Mexico and the panama canal during the war never seeing any action. I believe he was either on an LST or PT boat.
I do have a picture of his entire company that was taken March 21, 1944 if anyone would like a copy. He does have all the names of the people in the photo written on the back. However, he lives in Florida and I live in California. Next time I get out there, I will try and get a copy. Matty is 85 and doing great.
He was and is always confused as being Italian. His name, Russo is actually sephardic jew, so maybe that would spark someones memory. Next time I speak with him I will try and get more information.
