Hello David Evans and thank you for your service. Sorry- I do not have a picture. My grandpa, Robert Bogart, hitched a ride on your ship on September 10, 1944. He was a marine from the Pioneer BN, 5th Division. Based on my research, my best guess is he left San Diego on 9-10-44 and arrived in Hilo? Is this your recollection? I calculated it would take 5.6 days if she traveled at full speed and never stopped. (I first thought he left Hilo (Camp Tarawa) on 9-10-44 for Peleliu or Leyte...now I do not think so. I also see she earned a battle star in November of '44. Good job!) You are so valued as being part of the greatest generation. cheers!
