My father was a corpsman with the 28th Regiment, 5th Marine Division. He landed on the 6th wave at Iwo Jima. After the war he became a veterinarian and moved to South Dakota where practiced for more than 50 years.
I have been researching the corpsmen who served on Iwo Jima. I ran across this site about Isaac Kenton Allum, who was apparently a member of a Navy beach party from the USS Newberry, and who lost his life on blue beach on D-day:
