my dad was capt. of the uss talladaga APA 208 during ww 2 his name was James Douglas Matheny, his rank at the time was LT. Comander. carried lots of marines,army personal. he told me a tale, that the {large flag} that the marines raised at Iwo, came off the talladaga. I pray someone out there can give me some info. By the way, when he made capt. he swore me in to the navy. I served aboard the USS Remey DD 688. my rank, when discharged was MM3.
