This was sent to me by John Bottone:

I am sorry to report that the USS Chilton has another one of its crew transferred to another duty station. Yesterday I got word that Ed Ritterhoff received his papers. Ed has had a few years of battling health problems and managed to beat them until now. He sure was a fighter and his wife Jan was a great help to him during his illness battle.

Ed Ritterhoff was a Chilton Plankie and served aboard in WW-II from 1943 to 1945 as a BM2/c in the 1st Div. Ed also was The Chilton Association Secretary/Treasurer for a number of years and had to relinquish that Job to Bill Shields at the onset of his Illness. Despite having to battle his health problems Ed took on the job of sending out cards to our sick and departed shipmates and families. The Association will surely miss him as will I. Ed and his wife Jan where a great help to build up the Chilton Association and to help keep it going. The Association was very fortunate to have Bill Shields and his wife Joyce take over Ed and Jan's duty's.
