Dear Mr.Padden,
Our family were 'cottagers' on Keuka Lake for probably 70 - 80 years, until my generation grew up, scattered far and wide, and the properties were sold.
As a child during the Second War, I often heard the grownups talking about Sampson, and about submarines in Seneca Lake.... and wondered quietly how they could possibly get there. No one could really confirm that there were actually submarines, nor explain much, because it was 'secret'. Now, sixty-odd years later, when the question somehow came up again last night from the depths of memory, that perhaps Google could provide the answer. My search turned up your website, but I found no mention of submarines.
Can you tell me now whether there were indeed subs in Seneca, or how such a rumour, if it was one, might have arisen? Perhaps you can satisfy, once and for all, this long, long childhood curiosity.
Many thanks,
Janet B. Scott
