My father, Florian "Chub" De Groot, served on the "Ole Tub" as he called it, during WW II. He passed away in 1987 and I am putting together a display case, for our family,of his awards and citations. I have received replacement medals from the US Navy as we could not locate the originals. Those are the American Campaign, Asiatic Pacific Campaign, WW II Victory, and Philippine Liberation. In my investigation, I have found that he may be entitled to two awards that he did not receive. They would be the China Service Medal and the WW II Navy Occupation Medal. To qualify for the first you had to be in China after September 1, 1945, for the second, you had to be in occupied territory for 30 days after hostilities have ended. If anyone that served with my father can shed some light as to the awards the ship received it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks - Tim
