I was in Sampson,July, '45, finished boot in 6 weeks. Train
to Seattle, Wa. Boarded AKA-64, USS Tolland. Spent some time
in Pacfic. Went thru the Panama Canal to Norfolk to my first Destroyer, DD-845, USS Bausell. Special tour to Alaska. Then was transfered to DD-877, USS Perkins. One tour to Eniwetok to see the big one. Then transfered to the
DD-886, USS Orleck. Went to China, up and down the coast.
Stayed in Japan for a awhile. All in all, had a good time,
which was 4 years.
My only regret is, we only new our shipmates by a nickname
or there first name. Never new the last name.
We live on Pine Island, out side of Fort Myers Fl. Was told
about Sampson web site by Rod Outwait who lives around
Sampson and who helped on reconstructing the Naval Station.
I'll quit for now, thanks again on reaching me.
