I was in the Navy from 12-54 to 12-58, my first duty station was a Destoyer out of Pearl Harbor,T. H.. I talked to some of the Vietnamese undergoing military training in Pearl in mid 55. They told stories of the communist deliberatly crippleing refugee's by punctureing ear drums and smashing ankles with rifle butts so they couldn't return and take up arms against the commies and to discourage others from leaving. Also was told by U. S. personnel that those taking part in the evacuation were told to keep their mouths shut about the operation.
