Sweet Home Alabama
Its happened to all of us. At one time or another, we have all made a comment that got passed around and around and around and when it came back to us, it sounded nothing like it started out to be! Its like playing the game telephone. When you start it, it sounds something like this:::"Peter Piper Picked A Pack Of Pickled Peppers." When it comes back around to you, it sounds something like this:::"John Likes Pizza With Peppers On It." That sounds absolutely NOTHING like what you started out with now does it? This happened to one of our fellow race drivers not too long ago.
Mr. Tony Stewart did an interview with a British Magazine back in December where he was asked all different kinds of questions. One question just happened to be what track he thought the craziest fans were. "Talladega" he responded. When asked why Talladega, Tony simply stated "Its in Alabama, enough said!" Little did he know that those comments would start a huge controversy. When the magazine was published, the article sounded like it had been dragged through the dirt, run over by a freight-train, mulled by bears, and kicked in the nuts at least 30 times. What came out of those simple words "Talladega" and "Its in Alabama, enough said" was "Alabama has the most obnoxious race fans in the world." Where in the hell in Tony's comments above does it say Alabama has the most obnoxious race fans in the world? Some people just do not understand!
Now everyone knows Tony Stewart isn't perfect, but then again, who is? For many, many years, we have all seen drivers state their opinions. But this? This was a misread opinion. All the years I have known Tony Stewart, and watched him race, I have known him to speak his mind. Never once though, has he ever said something like that. Tony realizes that the fans make up the sport. He knows better than to piss them off. He knows that they would spit in his face any chance they got if he said something like that. What Tony meant was they are the wildest bunch, that the fans in Alabama are great sports! He said himself that he sometimes he says too much and that gets him in trouble. Well, this time he said too little. And again, it was rubbed in his face and got him into trouble. Not with one person, but with the whole damn state.
Tony apologized to the fans. "I am sorry from the bottom of my heart, I didn't mean for it to come out like that." Someone who is not a Tony Stewart fan may say, "Yeah right. He isn't sorry. He doesn't like Alabama and now everyone knows his little secret, screw him!!!" But all the Tony Stewart Fans across the world know that Tony did mean it when he apologized. We (yes we, I am a die-hard Tony Stewart fan and DAMN Proud of it!) know that he likes Alabama.... We Tony fans also know that deep down there is a tiger inside "Smoke Johnson" ... waiting to show that wild side that everyone either loves or loves to hate. Tony may say and do a few wrong things, he may say too much, or in this case say to little, but truly, in his heart he is a wonderful person. Oh yeah, and he doesn't kiss ass.
