Russell Earnshaw claims Bees were booed by Moseley fans following feisty local derby

RUSSELL Earnshaw has claimed his team was barracked by a section of the Moseley supporters following Saturday’s feisty local derby.

Earnshaw’s Bees were finally beaten 23-16 by a visiting side who vastly under-performed as both clubs were sucked into a niggly affair.

Although there was only one yellow card – for a technical offence – there were several off-the-ball incidents which went either unseen or unpunished by the officials.

And even though things did not boil over on the pitch, Earnshaw maintained some of the visiting fans booed his men as they came off it.

That prompted the player coach to hit out at the Moseley followers who were allegedly involved.

“I was pretty appalled,” Earnshaw said.

“As we were coming through their tunnel a small minority of their fans were booing and during the match my partner was involved in an argument with one of them.

“I can understand there is a rivalry there, but we are not football fans are we?

“The support we have over the last few months has been amazing. The Cornish Pirates fans were unbelievable.

“But I am a believer that there is a bit of a difference between rugby and other sports, so I think it’s unacceptable.”

However, Moseley deny Earnshaw’s assertion. A spokesman said: “I have asked a number of senior members who were present outside when the Bees team left the field and no-one had heard any booing of Bees players.

“However, a number of wags did add that in view of Moseley’s own disappointing performance, any booing of Moseley players by even a handful of Moseley supporters after the game would probably have been entirely justified.”

This latest allegation is sure to spice up the return fixture on January 23, when the sides clash with just three games remaining before the league splits into relegation and promotion play-offs.

Next up for Earnshaw, however, is a trip to face his old side, Doncaster. The No 8 is expected to continue playing despite carrying a heavily strapped knee injury.

And he also hopes tighthead Ricky Davies recovers from the back spasms that ended his afternoon early on Saturday.

As to the report.... Seems to me, given Bees recent history: "In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king!!"
I suspect Jan 23rd at Billesley will be very different.!
