Subject: Figurini cactus

A friend living in Stanthorpe Queensland Australia has written the following:
' ... and a sorbet made from the figurini fruit. It was such an adventure simply trying to harvest the fruit from the formidable cactus, let alone getting the spines off.'

Is this cactus an Australian native - where can I find a picture of it?
