Subject: Advice required on San Pedro

I have a Trichocereus pachanoi which was given to me about two years ago. When I got it, it had scale, so I bought some pyrethrum to spray it. Unknown to me the pyrethrum contained hydrocarbons and as a result the waxy coating was stripped and the San Pedro got sunburned. It is now growing quite well above the scarred area, but I am wondering if i should cut off the healthy top part and re-root it, as the damaged section is not developing at the same rate as the new growth. I dont want it to become top heavy and break.
Any advice would be appreciated.
