Subject: champions, true champions, idols, and nice guys

(i saw a poll on another message board, and found it extremely thought-provoking, especially as i saw it on Father's Day (USA) -- the poll has disappeared on that message board, so i thot i would recycle it here -- sorry, this message board has no way to tally responses, so if anyone responds, it will have to be merely anecdotal.)

what do we expect of our champions?

what makes a true champion?

what distinquishes the two?

what role does nice-ness play?

how do we decide which sports figures become idols?

(ps -- as long as you are "nice," polite, and respectful of one another, your DP host and its sponsors, and the sports -- or other -- figures you mention in your responses, i am not overly concerned about responders staying "on topic")
