Subject: My Theory About Jan

I have been a fan of Jan's since the early 1990s, before he won the Tour even. Anyway, while I am not willing to say that he didn't dope--I have believed that most riders and all elite riders dope since Festina happaned and used to get royally abused for it here back in the AY ;-) -- a lot of what is happening surrounding Jan seems toO convenient for me:

1. Why with all the "Clue" like sillyness surrounding codenames etc., was Jan's blood labelled JAN?
2. Why is T-Mobil almost taking what happened personally, when surely they Knew and probably assisted in some ways with his "training?"
3. Why is Jan in tears pleading he has never met Feuntes? Basso isn't. He just keeps pleading "I never met the guy, why is this happening."

So this is my theory: I believe him--he doesn't strike me as an effective liar or actor. I adore Jan but think he's just this sweet guy, who is not that bright BUT who is not sneaky or suspicious. He's the Anti-Lance, if you will. Somewhere along the line he was sucked up by the evil sevngali Rudi Pevenage and Pevange eventually gained all control over him.

How many of us Jan fans have not prayed he would finally get away from that horrid little man?

I think Jan is right in that he never meant Fuentes. I think he was wroking with Cechiccini (sp?) and that Pevenage was workign with Fuentes behind hi sback on the side in order to black mail T-Mobil and maybe Jan too; and that maybe Pevange had been black-mailing T-Mobil for a while and that was why everything linking JAN to Fuentes was so obvious--it neede to be for Pevange's plan to work.

The primary link between Jan and Feuntes was Pevanage. I believe that Jan trusted Pevange like a father and probablly, Pevnage was with Jan when he was having blood drawn (because really only stupid doctors woul do it themsleves--you can have blood withdrawn anywhere)and said he would get it to Cechiccini or wherever it normally would go, but instead gave it to Fuentes--Fuentes may even have believe he was working with Jan and drew up a regiment for me through Pevenage, that Jan never even saw. Maybe Pevange was even selling the stuff himself to ge tmore money. I wouldn't put anything past that slimy little troll.

And this is why I think T-Mobil acted as if they were almost relieved by the disclosure and rushed to cut Jan and Pevanage loose so fast (which is never done in cycling, they all play the game). In fact, maybe someone from T-Mob turned them all in--maybe they realized that it wouldn't really implicate them because the teams main doctor wasn't involved--only Jan and Pevanage and Sevilla.

I have no proof, it is only my own theory. It could be completely insane but the whole mess is insane so...
