(1) Lets say you know from previous exposure that you disagree with 4muddypuppies on everything she writes - on the old board you can avoid her posts, and every post associated with it. Those little he-said she-said arguments (which do take up a lot of space on the front board) can be avoided with ease in order to perhaps follow an otherwise useful series of posts.
(2) If you are interested in one specific person and their take on an issue, it is easy to find them. It makes checking back on the board during the day for a quick fix both easy and entertaining.
(3) You lose lurkers. This may not be a bad thing, but certainly I am not the only person that hates registering for things and never remembers passwords. You therefore get less flame (but again, on this board those arguments are easily avoided - they only take up space) but you also miss people that feel strongly about an issue who would suddenly jump in with a very useful 2 cents, only to dissapear again.
