Subject: Doping the final mathematical solution

Fascinating discussion on Doping,

Let me see let's look at and decide the viewpoint here in exploring this topic:

Do we start with the basic premise that:
a) All of the peloton are guilty of doping all the time.
b) Some of the peloton are doping all the time.
c) Some of the peloton are doping some of the time.
d) Some are using dope during the off season for training.
e) Only a few of the peloton are using drugs, and not very often.
f) None of the above because I just don't know.

Then post the answer I really would like to know your opinion.

After you make your choice think about how many pro riders there are, I estimate: approximately 1500 without going to the UCI site to find the exact number.
How many times will a rider be tested during a season?
In all these tests, how many positives were there last year?
How many riders were penalised?
How big is the problem?
Lets apply some math to the situation and have some fun!
1) Take the number of actual positives recorded, plus the penalized riders for total penalties, divide this number by the total riders for a percentage of total of riders caught doping.
2) Now having done that take the total number of articles and reports on doping in Cycling and divide it by the number of total penalties and actual positives. Ratio of Press to actual cases.
3) Add this figure (2) to the number of message board messages about doping that you read and posted for total reports and attention.
4) Divide total reports and attention (3) by the actual riders penalized in step 1, for the overblown out of proportion ratio.
5) having done this divide the number derived from # 3 the number of times you actually saw another rider in your class of racing using dope. (If you have been using drugs for assistance in training or racing use the number of times you used drugs.)
6) Now the last step having finished all these calculations is to take the total number of reports, Message board messages you have searched for, read on the internet, and posted, plus the number of races where tests are done divide this by the number of riders registered at all levels from elite amateurs through Div I pros. This should give you the total B u ll-SHIRT quotient, or sometimes referred to the "Too much time on your hands" quotient.

This is part joke, part entertainment and part just my stupid attempt to bring some perspective and lightness into the discussion.

By the by, if anyone does the math I would love to see the results, but I hope you opt out to just get outside and take a ride or write why you love cycling and enter it in the Daily Peloton writing contest.
hehehe
