Remember that Dave the Wombat, who started this thread, actually knew Cadel Evans when he was an unknown teenager in Australia and doing amazing things. So I for one can happily go along with Wombat's enthusiasm!

It's a trifle unfair to compare him with Vinokourov because Vino has had about five more seasons than Evans to shine. Evans lead the Giro at the age of 24 and I think that qualifies him as someone to watch. He's had a wretched couple of years due to injury and more recently, strange decisions from his team. But he seems to have turned the corner.

Evan's girlfriend, incidentally, is a concert pianist who is quite happy to put her Debussy to one side to pace Cadel on a motorbike! Evans is also a very good diarist which is perhaps why people on this site follow him.
