What sounded like a "d" was actually a short rolled "r"

Imagine a rolled "r" like Spanish speakers do. The tip of your tongue should be just about touching your gums near the roof of your mouth right behind your front teeth. But instead of a long roll, do a single abrupt voiced consonant sound.

It should sound very similar to the "d" sound, but it's definitely an "r" sound. If you listen closely, you'll hear that it's actually the same sound for both r's in "Freire" but you didn't hear the first one as a "d" because the English speaking mind isn't used to the "fd" sound at the beginning of words.
