Subject: thank God for helmets

20 years of road cycling and I just had my worst accident yesterday... New bike path to me, just sitting up from a sprint; going about 42kmh, suns going down, one hand barely holding the handlebars; the other adjusting the heart rate monitor strap, and wham! never saw the huge deformity in the road.
I remember getting hell from the other kids in school as a youngster with my old bright yellow bell hard shell helmet... I'm so glad its second nature to me now. Living in France I'm suprised every day at how few people wear them.... 2000 euros for a carbon frame and they cant be bothered to wear a helmet!

Anyhow; I watched the Vuelta I've been taping all week today as I sat on some cushions and held ice against my hip and tried to keep my shoulders from moving.
