Landon passing so young should remind us all to appreciate life every day, as I'm sure he did.

His final public appearance on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson was moving and unforgettable. Landon's grace and humor in the face of his illness was inspiring. And if I remember correctly, the ratings for that were thru the roof, it seemed as though the whole country was watching that. Try to imagine that for one of the "stars" of today.

Fortunately for us and future generations, he left behind a body of work to be enjoyed and admired. I'll always think of him first as Little Joe Cartwright, but his onscreen transition from the tough, impulsive youngster, to later a warm and caring father was seamless. And combined with his talent as a writer and director, well, it makes him one of the most consequential figures in the history of entertainment. He was a true craftsman.

RIP, Mike, and thanks.
