Subject: Confessions of a Prairie Bitch

Caught Allison Arngrim's one-woman show, "Confessions of a Prairie Bitch," last night. It was very entertaining and "Nellie Olsen" (of "Little House on the Prairie") spared no one. Her father was Liberace's business manager and her mom did voices of famous characters like Casper (the Friendly Ghost), Sweet Polly Purebread (Underdog's girlfriend) and Davey (companion to Goliath the talking dog). She says it made for quite an interesting household growing up. She did some great impressions, too.

Anyways as I said she spared no one, including Michael Landon. According to her he showed up on the set ready to work very early every morning with a cigarette in one hand and a cup of Wild Turkey in the other and his hands were filled for the rest of the day. He was extremely aware of everything on the set -- he was an autocratic "his way or the highway" boss -- and everyone loved going to work for him. His costume always had to be perfect, and he showed off his perfected pecs as much as possible. Allison said no matter what kind of accident, Charles always got hurt in the ribs. She showed a clip which illustrated her point. An injured (and shirtless) Charles struggled to get out of bed and put on his shirt, and Allison narrated, "See how long we see his chest? How long does it take a guy to put on a shirt?" And she added, "He was the only 19th century farmer to have a $200 Beverly Hills haircut."

Michael always put the fans first. Not the NBC big-wigs, not the sponsors. He could be chewing out a crew member on the set when visitors would arrive, then turn and say, "Oh how are you? Great to see you. You're from Piss Creek Kansas? I love it there. I did a rodeo. Great town." Then he'd turn around and continue berating the crewman. Allison said he told them, "Without the fans you're nothing. If they stop watching the show, we're all out of a job."

And finally she said he loved tight pants and never wore underwear. "Michael was definitely Jewish -- thanks for showing us!" she said.

It was a fun evening and i recommend you catch the show when it's in town. She tours quite a bit.

There is a short youtube with a few minutes of Allison Arngrim's live show. She's hilarious. I'd love to see it.

I thought about this some more...I understand that an actress has to go on and make a living. But doesn't it seem a little too personal for her to be telling us that Landon did not use underwear? It's really not how I want to think of him or his television series.

I appreciate your sentiment, Jarrod, but really, anyone watching a good digital transfer of a BONANZA episode (e.g., any of the official DVD releases from CBS Home Ent.) can see pretty clearly that Little Joe wasn't so little.

Mike wore underwear and even Kent McCray knows that. Mike had Lynn cut his hair and he dyed it. Yeah, all folks have stylists, but AA spins the facts. On my way soon! TTU later in the season!

Now I know the two men were close, but just how in the heck would Kent McCray know whether Michael Landon wore underwear or not? And how in tarnation did the topic even come up in conversation?!
