Another good Ed Bradley story is about the first story he ever had that made Cronkite's nightly news show. There was a story about a group of blind children visiting the Rhodan Museum in Paris. The bureau chief thought it wasn't much of an assignment and didn't want to bother with it so he handed it off to Bradley. At the statue of the "The Thinker", one of the children climbed up onto it and felt the face. He then turned and described what he felt to the other children. Cronkite loved it, put it on the CBS Evening News and Bradley's career got a huge leg up.

James L. Brooks said that he often got ideas for episodes from life. When two aunts attended a funeral for someone they really didn't like all that well, they began laughing at the eulogies and couldn't stop. That became the famous "Chuckles the Clown" episode of the MTM show. When Brooks heard his father, who had abandoned the family when he was a child, was in a local hospital, he went there, not even remembering what his father looked like. He was escorted to a room that had a dying old man in it and, very touchingly, told the man all the things he'd ever wanted to say to his father, who was the other patient in the room, lying in his bed behind a screen and feeling fine. That became an episode of Taxi, another famous show created by Brooks.
