Subject: Happy Birthday, Ponderosa Scenery!!!

Nine years ago, I launched the website and it was only 1/3 complete. It took me another 4 or 5 years to get it all done. The day I published it was October 31, 2000, which was Michael Landon's birthday.

Current amount of visits is: 1,012,461

Current amount of hits is: 5,216,739

I must admit I had no idea it would achieve such greatness, but perhaps I was trying not to be modest, but more concerned with documenting a beloved TV series with blood, sweat and tears. And that is exactly what I did. Not just for myself, but for the people who hold it dearly in their hearts. The numbers speak for themselves.

Congrats Rick for a superb website! I first discovered your website this summer and ever since I check your episode guide after I watch each show. I also read this forum regularly to see what shows I should watch on YouTube and general Bonanza news. By the way, I've never been mislead by any of the comments in this forum.

Rick, since I'm new to this website, I feel you won't mind if I ask the following questions. What led you to start this website? Did you use to be involved in the production of the show? I ask this because you seem to know so much. I can't believe all the detail you have for each episode. I feel this website has been a labor of love. I thank you very much for it.

Hi Kim,

No, I never worked the series. I watched the show just like anyone, but became interested in learning how it was made. Over the years, I'd compile information with the thought of writing a book. I thought a web site was a better idea, as there was so much to research, it would be more practical and it is. To list all the details would be too much. Overall, you have to learn about every facet that makes a filmed TV series and document it. Locations is something I've been doing for over 30 years and that was a major part of the series' look and appeal. In some areas, I'd get in touch with people who worked the show and with Michael Landon and from there, you have to put it all together. Not an easy task, even for a natural. The archiving of the history can be a struggle and I made my share of mistakes, but that helps you learn to get it down for the accuracy. Studying 430 episodes is much different then sitting down and simply enjoying them. It's a labor of love.

Rick, I know this site (and your others ) have brought fun and joy to many hearts through these years. Thank you from me along with all these others for what your hard work has done for many. I'm sure there are some people who don't realize the importance of what you do. We do recognize it. This world needs more of this. Thank you again.

[> Mucho Thanks -- SWC, 18:24:45 10/31/09 Sat [1]

This site is not only a wealth of information and pictures on one of the greatest TV series ever but the board you maintain is an oasis of intelligence and civility that I love to visit to relax after being on the highly argurmentative sports and political forums I spend much of my time on. It's also a great place to discuss old-time televsion. I hope you keep it going for years to come.

I'd been on another board that was good but had some weird rules. They had a computer program that prevented you from using certain words but it was misfiring and I got flagged for using words like "wall" and "convention". I contacted them to tell them of this flaw and I got a standard lecture on obeying the rules.

PAX was showing all the old episodes and I had to find another place to comment on them. I blundered into some previous forum you had and was the only one on there until you rescued me and directed me here, (just like the Cartwrights when they found Adam at the end of "The Crucible").

One thing that other site had that I did like was a link to a guest spot Pernell Roberts did on the Mike Douglas Show shortly after he left Bonanza in which he talked about why he left and his future plans. I've never found it anywhere else.

One more thing I liked about another site that no longer exists was the fan fiction section. There are some very good writters among us with some great story lines-Adam returns home, Hoss never dies, Ben never gets any older, Joe still has all his great dark hair, no Laura and Will, and a welcomed Candy. That I really do miss. adamseve
