You're right Richard, re: "Nick Barkley was usually the hot-headed one of the family, requiring the level-headed attorney/brother, Jared, to calm him down." but that in real life Richard L for Long had some heart condition http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0519160/bio and that I guess because of this drove his wife nuts. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0179408/bio "17 tumultuous years". Plus as Jarrod on that "Days of Wrath" episode * http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0524344/ on this past Wednesday he/ Nick had to calm down a distraught Jarrod when that Cass Hyatt shot his wife, of with the "Curse of the Cartwrights" over there too. (;-) Plus speaking of hot tempers, Jarrod's wife Beth, as played by Sandra Smith was also "James T. Kirk" of "Star Trek". Yes, you read me right, of when "she" turned into "he" and then tried to take over The Enterprise. Remember that episode? of 1969: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0708485/

P.S. Speaking of these medical conditions, I see that Glen Campbell was on The CBS SUNDAY MORNING TV show today, of with Alzheimer's but doing great with the assist of his daughter on stage, of he'd look back to see her smile and everything would be O.K. of him still a great singer, and he said of a bad performer as an actor is HOW John Wayne got the Oscar for "True Grit". Of Glen taking over from The Smothers Brothers to his own show, of I remember those good old days and in the early 1990s did write and get a nice autographed photo from both Tom and Dick. Of Judy Carne, http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0138637/ and http://www.sitcomsonline.com/photopost/showphoto.php/photo/153805 (of her "Match Game" photo) the Sock-it-to me gal in N.Y. now-a-days I think, plus Professor Irwin Corey** still with us and with his own website too over at: http://www.irwincorey.org/ who signs autographed pictures also, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irwin_Corey of him 97 going on 98 this July 29th, 2012.

Thanks, Joe. I was a big fan of Professor Irwin Corey, as was my father. Prof. Corey used to show up on the Tonight Show and the old Jackie Gleason Variety Show, when Jackie had Prof. Corey on a panel answering questions with Jayne Mansfield and Frank Fontaine (Crazy Gukinheim). There is a Youtube showing this as well.

It's amazing that Professor Corey is still alive and strong. And yes, I actually remember the "2-Part Answer" joke from the old Tonight Show (w/ Johnny Carson). That was very funny!

Regarding The Big Valley -- Jarrod, in some sense, had to be the serious, reasonable one. Sort of like Adam, in that sense.
