Saw it on Tuner Classic movies last night. It came out in 1957. Great flick, (I love those 50's cinemascope pictures: they make the films of today look like home movies).

Gregory Peck plays a sea captain who meets a girl in the east and then goes west to marry her and had to deal with a lot of western types, including Charles Bickford and Burl Ives as feuding land barons, Charlton Heston and Bickford's loyal foreman and Chuck Connors as Ives' ner-do-well son.

the sea captain proves as tough as any of the cowboys and a good deal smarter. I wonder if this film influence Davvid Dortort to make Ben Cartwright a former sea captain?
