My suggestion would be to go to the episode guide on this site and look for the episodes you are watching. The guide says the date and place episodes were filmed unless it was in the studio. There are shots taken from the episodes and are in the Locations tab.

That mountain might be a backdrop. I know it looks too big for that, but that's the magic of television! And Los Angeles does have mountains; the opening scene of M*A*S*H was shot on the Warner Bros lot. Most of the Bonanza "town" episodes were shot on a studio lot.
