You are so right. It even got worse with the Dr. Quinish Ponderosa. The steely early Adam was probably more realistic. The one that really needed change was the dimwit Hoss. And Dan did a great job recreating him but retaining who the character was. I guess these characters were changed to what the public wanted. Is Twilight so successful because the Vampires are such "nice" people? adamseve

If These Characters Really Would Have Been True Cattlemen They Would Be Covered In Dust , Dirt and Manure Daily and They'd Have Ripped Shirts and Jean's From Barb Wire Fencing.
Their Raw Hide Gloves Would Have Rip's From Being Caught On Fencing As Well , From Pulling It Tight and Nailing It To The Post.

Sometimes The Wire Snaps And It'll Riccochet"(Sp?) Back and Wrap Around You And You Get Cut To Shreds.

These Tv Series Never Showed The True Scope Of Real Ranch Life. But It Provided Great Reel Life Of How It Was Played Out.

You Get Up At 5 Am , and Work Till It's Dark , After 11 Pm.
You Smack Your Alarm When It Ring's Because Your Too Tired To Move.

I Think Back On This and I Am Glad My Dad Sold Our Place To A Ranch Real Estate Investor.
I'd Still Be Out Riding That Ugly Fence Line.

Yup, I remember. Up at 5am, and lucky to get free by 9pm, only to be corraled into a nightly chess game with my uncle. There were days I wanted to just ditch the whole day with my cousins Tom and Huck style! I think the biggest thing which of course doesn't make for good Bonanza is the constant visual and dodging game of cow patties on the Ranch. That stuff is everywhere and you can't get away from it. I wonder how many times the tractor wheels have flung those patties off the wheels and into my face when I was riding in the hay wagon. Ick! No patties on the Bonanza crew, so yes it's a very santized version of Ranch life. Horse troughs were probably a good substitute for falling into cow patties! Water doesn't smell or look so bad on film!

The Father Knows Best of Western life is a real cracker! Good one!

Oh My Gosh , I Forgot About Dry Patty's , My Brother Would Sling Those At Me , They Make Great Frisbee's.
Another Thing We Used Them For Was Shooting With Our Shot Gun's. Kinda Like Skeet Shooting Clay Pigeon's.

Afew Times Hed Plop A Wet One On My Head. Yuck*

Stock Water Tank's Were Great On Hot Summer Day's.

I Miss The Life , But Not The Back Breaking Work It Caused.

The Western's Should Show More About Cattle Kicking You.
Rank Horse's Sinking Their Teeth In You.
Back In The Late 60's My Mom Was In The Horse Corral and We Had A Rank Mean Stud and He Came Up And Bit My Mom In The Breast And Would Not Let Go , My Dad Had To Use A Crow Bar On His Mouth Because His Jaw Was Locked Close.

The Life Of Rancher Sound's Enviting , But After 1 Day Out In The Blistering Heat You'll Soon Change You Mind About It.
