Subject: November 1972: NBC cancels BONANZA

It was on this day, the NBC-NY branch called Dortort and canceled the series. The crew were told over the weekend and on Monday, the 6th, Landon, Greene, Canary and Matheson were told the last day of filming was Wednesday the 8th.

I know we make a big deal about the end of the show on NBC. But what do we know about how the deal was originally put in place back in 1958 or 1959? When did NBC officially green-light the show, and how did Dortort broker the deal with the network? I am sure it ran longer than either network or producer expected it to.
