Remember a simliar episode. The Stallion reminds a lot of Joe's love affair with the White horse in "The Gift". Also simliar in that Joe rode the white horse to death almost, and he also put that horse out of it's misery after it was clipped by Sam Wolfe. Notice how simliar those two episodes are over two supreme horses, one white and one black.

Sadly, Andrew, I've never had the opportunity to see Stallion, but The Gift is the first episode I ever saw. My Sister had recorded it, so I know it must have been one of her favorites. And it certainly is my favorite of all the eps I've been privileged to see.
Jane, watch other Bonanza episodes and I'm sure you'll come to love the series as we all do on this forum. Many are touching and others are quite hilarious and they're all worth watching.

Stallion was sad, much like "The Gift". There was another episode about a beautiful black stallion in season 7, "The Lonely Runner". Again, another sad episode of sorts, except this time, the beautiful black stallion is allowed to run free at the end, but his beloved keeper and owner is killed. On the episode about The "Black Stallion", isn't that around season 13 or 14? Yeah, that would mean as Bonanza is releasing one episode a year in English here, you would have to wait until 2024! Oh dear! Yes, I saw it years ago!

It looks like I'm going to have to buy the right kind of DVD player and buy German. I sure don't want to try to wait until 2024! :)

"Stallion" was season 14 and without Hal Burton (as Joe) and Ott the stunthorse, it could have never been filmed. He did it all for Mike on location. One of the greatest horsemen there is!

Thanks Rick, these little bits of info is what makes this site the best. One time I watched "Dr. No" with comentary thru the whole movie. Things like: we loved Sean because he moved like a cat, we could never film Sean eating because ,well, it wasn't Bond, the scene with the tarantula in a cage on that small table and the man sitting in a lone chair --no money. They ran out of money for that scene but it came out perfect and we all remember it. This was the first Bond film done on a small budget. Noone dreamed it would develope into what it has over fifty years. Great stuff. Thanks for sharing. adamseve

There is yet another beautifully black stallion episode in "The Sure Thing". And it's very cool because the girl who caught this horse in the wild in the beginning is none other then Matty from True Grit. This might of been made around the time of the movie cause she looks like she just came off the movie set of True Grit. Matty Ross who was Kim Darby. Great episode!
