Subject: Bonanza's last days on TV Land

Well, if the word is correct, the show's last airing will be on the 31st, as opposed to 2012, as I have noted for a long time now. We'll find out soon.

It's sad to see it end after eight years. The early years were the best, even with the constant shuffling around of the broadcast schedule. Bonanza was even in prime time there for awhile! Weekend marathons of Bonanza and Gunsmoke, the Bonanaza 45th Anniversary in September 2004, the TV Landon marathon, etc. Sure, there were scene cuts, but the cuts are worse now.

TV Land used to air a lot of commercials promoting Bonanza, but now it just relentlessly promos its two original sitcoms. No thanks, I'll pass on those.

Well Tim, that makes at least two of us who will pass on them.

According to Sitcoms Online's blog, Gunsmoke is ending on the 31st, but not Bonanza. Bonanza will take on Gunsmoke's 2 hours each day and air from noon-5 eastern.

I didn't think Bonanza would exit a year early, as it expires on 8/31/12. The source was an insider with TV Land contacts, but I don't think all his info is accurate. As for Gunsmoke it had its time on the network, I guess.

As I watch the I Love Lucy marathon, I have to think that there is a good reason that it has not ever been off the air in 60 years!! Bonanza is another in that lonely class. Tvland is constntly advertising Hot in Cleveland and Happily Divorced. Neither will have the success of the Golden Girls or the Nanny and certainly will not be rerun for twenty years. Some shows are classics from day one due to good scripts, good acting and a charismatic connection with their audience. Hopefully Bonanza will find a new home with sponcers other thn drugs, insurance and depends. Talk about alienating the youth. Who is the inspiration chanel? I din't think direct tv carries it. adamseve
